What was the Previous Owner Thinking?!?!?!
Is there anyone else that gets furious when thinking about what the previous owner has done to your truck?
The PO of my truck (and the shop here in Vegas doing some of his work) seemed to have been dropped on their heads a bunch when they were babies. Too many dollars and not enough sense. For example: 1. Cutting the front crossmember to clear the oil pan, leaving only 1/4" of material in 4 places (pictures attached) 2. Cutting a hole in the center of the bed for the gas cap of a fuel cell. 3. Screwing up a Painless wiring setup (how does this happen?!) 4. Using wheel spacers to fix backspacing issues, leaving only 4 threads to hold on a set of 35" tires. 5. Buys a RamJet 350, can't figure out the fuel injection needs so unbolts it and throws it away in favor of a way oversized carb. 6. Using a fuel injection electric fuel pump at 60 psi, plumbed to a carb that requires only 6 psi. 7. Pulls spark plug wires off with need nose pliers, tearing the boots and causing spark jump to the headers. 8. Pinion angles way off. The list goes on and on and on... ![]()

Re: What was the Previous Owner Thinking?!?!?!
Whoa! I mean, I've often wondered that about my black spraybombed interior, an intake manifold with some interesting throttle linkage, but nothing as serious as that!

Re: What was the Previous Owner Thinking?!?!?!
wait did you say a shop did this?! my god what kinda workers do they allow these days! though a hole in the bed for a fuel cell though weird i don't think is bad so long as you never haul anything and need to fill up.... and isn't the ramjet just a plug and go system i mean thats based off a 60-70's tech for the corvette right?

Yeah, the "modern" RamJet crate was supposed to be plug and play; bolt it up, 1 fuel, 1 fuel return, 12v power, throttle cable and radiator hoses. About as simple a setup for FI that you can get.

I'm over by 215 and Windmill, not too far away it seems. It was some "creations" shop out at the speedway, not totally sure of the name.

Re: What was the Previous Owner Thinking?!?!?!
Well at least you got a good deal on the truck, right?
I politely pointed out everything major that was wrong with my Jimmy before buying it last year and as a result took it away for a pretty good price. Not in a you don't know how to turn wrenches way, but in a wow I'll have lots of work in this rig way. I have a few grand and I don't know how many hours fixing all the PO's handy work. Still a long way from perfect but at least it's not dangerous anymore. I love the torch but holy cow, cutting structural piece as opposed to sectioning an oil pan? Wow, talk about what not to do. You probably already know this but if not, you can save the cross member by re-boxing it with some plate. Pic kind of looks like it's 3/16" but double check; I wouldn't go any lighter than what the rest of the cross member is made of. Bevel the edges and burn it good and it'll be stronger than stock. Good luck, at least you've got something to keep you out of trouble for awhile!! Last edited by trz1000; 03-29-2011 at 07:56 PM. Reason: Grammar |
