Question 4 wheel wobble

This seems similar to Jason71K10's problem. I have a 72 C10 with a Dana 44 front end. When in 4wheel drive, both hi and low I think, the front wheel really wobble when I do an extreme left or right turn. Is this normal???

unless your not on dirt or mud or even snow..The wobble is normal..Pavement doesn't allow the tires to "slip" when you make a sharp turn. Remember you have u-joints on the front axles,Thats what causes it..

They'll eventually brake if you drive on pavement in 4wheel drive
Got Mud? Check out my Blazer

wobble

Well you have something there, I first noticed it on pavement. I also get it on hard dirt roads which I guess is almost the same as pavement. BTW, I don't generally drive in 4x on dirt roads, I do put it in 4x on my property to climb the hills, and I'm usually still in 4x when I get to my driveway. It's on the hard packed that I notice it. I've have two other 4 wheel drives, (shhhhh, don't tell anyone, they're Fords) and I haven't noticed this near as much. Is it possible this condition can be made more apparent with the u-joints getting old????

It can get worse if they are binding from being old or not greaseable..
As for the F*rds I couldn't tell yeah.. I just know about Dana 44 Chevy.I have broke several.. I now run the Dana 60 up front in my Blazer..

I hope I've helped a little..
Maybe someone else has some other Idea

Not sure how much wobble your talking about, but my Dana 44 does have a noticable wobble on pavement when in 4x4. I've got brand new U-joints so I consider it normal. I just take it out of 4x4 and problem solved.

As I said earlier, the first time I noticed it, I WAS on pavement. Can't remember why I was in 4x, but I actually thought something had broke and the the wheel was going to fall off. When I took it out of 4x, there was no longer a problem as you say. I still don't understand exactly why you would get a wobble. The hub is secured to the spindle the same way whether your in 4x or not.

Earlier someone had mentioned something about the Dana 60 not having this problem. Is it unique to the D44?
