78 chevy 4x4 3/4 ton engine swap
Hi, I have a 78 chevy 4x4 3/4 ton pickup and I am putting a 2002 chevy 5.3 engine and 4l60E transmission in it. I was wondering what you guys think would be the best transfercase for my application. thanks a lot!

Re: 78 chevy 4x4 3/4 ton engine swap
do you want to keep a full time case or does it have a part time kit in it? You may need to find an adapter that will let you bolt it up to the 4l60, maybe advance adapters. I aint a hundred percent but I think they have the same tail bolts and pattern as a 700r4? if so then it's the same as a th350 and all you need is a th350 or 700r4 t-case adapter which came stock in these trucks so should be easy to find. I'm not completely sure of the tail though so might need to research more, if not then advance adapters should have what you need. I thinkmost 4x4 that had the 4l60 is a DS drop like the 88-98 trucks so it would be on the wrong side for your front axle. That may not be a problem if you wanted one of the newer like 241c t-cases but you'd need a new front axle like a ford one or something with a ds pumpkin/diff. That could lead into alot of things, like steering, brakes, etc, that would need modified or changed.
If the th350 or 700r4 adapter would work on your trans you could use a 208 t-case or even hunt down a 205, maybe find the 88-91 burb 241 that has a ps drop.

Re: 78 chevy 4x4 3/4 ton engine swap
Does anyone know how to tell a 203 t-case (is a 203 full time?) from a 205 t-case i think my 78 chevy pickup has a 205 but not for sure, it had a 400sbc 400trans. It has a spot for a PTO to be mounted, i know they put tags on transforcases but i can't find one. Thanks
