Smile newbie to the C10 8 LUG?

hello i have been looking at this site for a few days now. i bought a 1968 chevy c10 vin# CS148T1xxxxxx i know its a 1/2 ton 6cyl truck from the vin. what i don't understand is today i removed the wheels it had on it 6 lug Aluminum wheels off a newer chevy truck, to find hidden under the center cap 8 lug axles? someone put spacers on to use 6 lug wheels. it was my understanding only 3/4 ton trucks have 8 lugs? i thought someone mite have put a 8 lug rear end in it, but it has 8 to 6 lug spacers in the front also. can someone fill me in on what the hell i have?

Re: newbie to the C10 8 LUG?

Sounds like you have a C20 that some one wanted to convert to a C10 but did not want to spend the dough. Maybe the cab had rusted out and the p.o. found a C10 cab, that is where the vin# is. The other idea is he put 8 lug axles on a C10, but then why would he use spacers to 6 lug.
Just tell your environmental friends you bought a hybrid.

Thanks. If they did change the cab of axles it was some time ago because it does not look like it's been touched In years! It's a 3 owner truck. I should call the guy I bought off of and see if he knows any history?

If the VIN indicates it's a 1/2 ton, the front & rear suspensions were swapped @ some time (or the cab was).

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Welcome to the forum InkedinRI. I have no idea why it is like that, but now you need to decide what you want to do with it. Take some pics, and let us know the direction you want to go. If its not like you want, it can be converted using later model parts.

Re: newbie to the C10 8 LUG?

Newer wheels are a little different than the old ones by a hair. Plus I pulled off the wheels and they are 6 lug ( my stupidity ) all the lugs on the spacer made me think it was 8 lug. Anyway the big picture is all I needed to do is take off the spacers and bolt on my old style rally's. Thanks for all your help.
