anybody know how to do this? install windows in frames
Just got my wing window frames back from the chrome shop. Need to get that tape stuff and re-install the glass. Then, talked to a friend who is a very capable car guy, he can build anything. He said he had a terrible time with the deal, couldn't get it together.
Any how-to's anywhere or anybody successfully done this? |

So far not done that. Heat will do wonders. Like with a heat gun. And sometimes silicone spray oil, just not on areas to paint. If I couldn't figure it out, I'd look for a glass shop to ask. I'd still want to do it myself, but maybe with a few lessons.

Im still having a tough time with them. I got one together and it started to separate after a few days. Hard to believe after beating it together with a hammer. Probably going to assemble it with urethane (sp?). The stuff they use to put new car windsheilds in.

the tape stuff comes in different thickness, glass shops have it, it is supposed to be soaked in oil first, slips right in, then trim and clean with soap !

after many long nights of fussing with trying to get my windshield out in one piece (well 2..)... lastnight i had to smash it and pull it bit by bit to get it out. why? Because the previous owner had "restored" the truck around 1990, and used modern windshield adhesives in there. For those of you that dont know, modern windshields in cars are held in by adhesive that holds stronger then a steel weld... thats right, if you had two steel windshields, and you welded one and "just glued" the other one.. the glued one would be more firmly attached. In a few new cars, they dont weld some structural parts, but epoxy them together this way.the stuff is amazing. that said... using it makes it impossible for the average someone like me to get the glass out in one piece. please dont do that. |

Thanks for that link to the Bolt. Looks like pretty good info. I'm thinking of building a little jig of plywood and blocks to hold the frame while using woodworking clamps to press in the glass. I really don't want to scarf up my new chrome frames.

One of the reasons I am going to one piece windows per blackdiesels writeup. I have two vent windows that would need replaced.
