I need information on the correct windshield for my 69 truck

I have a leaking rubber seal on my windshield and the glass has a crack in it also. The rubber is original to the truck but the glass was replaced about 10 years ago. I have heard that new glass is thinner than the old factory glass-anyone know if thats true?
How do I know if the glass I'm going to install is the right glass-I know there are makings on the corner of the glass but I don't know what they mean. Mine came with factory air so it has factory tint and I want the same tint (if possible)
I have already ordered a Precision Brand seal from GMC Pauls as I hear they are the best quality. Anyone have any additional thoughts?
Thanks Steve

You have the right gasket! I would look for a PPG, or Pilkington brand. Don't get an off brand. The windshield is a part #685. You can get them in clear, tinted, or shaded, which is a tinted one with the blue strip across the top. I prefer the shaded one.

I doubt they could be very much thinner. I have heard that some dont fit in the window frame as nice as the old ones did. Had to be ground down. Not sure what brand they were. A lot of stuff is of Oriental Origin, so to speak.

purchased a Pilkington about a year ago ... as far as I could tell the quality and fit was as good as original glass. $150 delivered to my house by the local glass company and I then installed it myself.

Re: I need information on the correct windshield for my 69 truck

I put a new windshield in my 72 GMC a while back and it's definitely thinner than the original. It fit perfectly though. I bought my gasket from "Classic Parts", it was a Precision gasket. Mine leaked at first, I noticed some water on my dash after it rained, I looked around the windshield and noticed the gasket was a little low on the lower drivers side corner, I pushed it up about 1/4 inch and it hasn't leaked since.
My glass is marked "PGW Solex". I dont know if it being thinner will make it more fragile but I have been told it wont be as quite as the thicker original glass. I put a PPG windshield in my 69 C-10, I got it about ten years ago and its as thick as the original. The PPG has a flaw though, it's shaded and the faded edge of the shaded part is a little wavy, it used to bother me all the time, now I dont even notice it.

Pilkingtons are great. PPG has been importing glass lately under the PGY, PGE or PGW (I think) name. Those are thinner than the pilkinton windshields. WES

Thanks everyone for your responses-looks like Pilkington gets it done!
