PLEASE HELP! wheel/ rearend ?????
Hey All,
I am finding out that I am really really stupid when it comes to these truck rebuilds. I have a few questions... 1st ?... I dissambled the whole rearend. I wanted to get it cleaned and powder coated. Cool idea I thought.. Well I cant find the bolts to reassemble the whole thing. Can anyone tell me what the correct size bolts are needed to bolt together the.. the rear drum backing plate that attaches to the rearend housing. also do they have to be hardened? (grade 8) what about the wheel cylenders? what size bolts and should they be hardened (grade 8) Any other pics or info would really be appreciated. I feel so dumb right now. You learn from your mistakes I guess. I just wish I did not spend so much time learning. |

Re: PLEASE HELP! wheel/ rearend ?????
the wheel cyl I'd not worry about. if you got it that apart. get new ones they "most" times come with new bolts..
the backing plate to axle, no idea.. I'm guess'n you took all the guts out.. you have to set the back lash for the gears and will need a new pinion crush sleave.. pic of what you've done would help.. |

Re: PLEASE HELP! wheel/ rearend ?????
everything that you said is so true.
However I am only needing to know that the size and length is and should it be hardened or not . I am talking about the 4 bolts that attach the backing plate to the rearend. where the axle shafts pass through. Anyone else? All info is appreciated. |

Re: PLEASE HELP! wheel/ rearend ?????
you have drill bits, find the biggest one that passes through the hole, and yes grade 8
then add the thickness of the backing plate, axle house'n flange and nut to get lenth more than likely 3/8th but check with a drill bit Last edited by stich626; 04-03-2011 at 05:48 PM. |
