Gauge Cluster Problems - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey everyone,
I'm in the final stages of getting my Blazer back together and I've hit a bump with the gauge cluster. The original one someone had painted over and the gauges were rusty, so I bought a new one. This one was out of an earlier GMC (It had the body color bezel). This one also had a tach, the original did not. When I hook it up, only the high beam indicator and brake warning work. The blinker lights and the gauge lights don't. What might be the problem? I know the circuit on the back is slightly different because of the tach, could my connector that goes into the circuit be wrong? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I am sure you are quicker than I was. None of my cluster lights worked when I bought the truck. I assumed it was a wiring issue. Found out that all bulbs were burned out due to a short in the printed circuit board (one of the printed circuits had been dislodged when someone put a little too much effort into seating a bulb). I cleared the short and replace d the bulbs and all was well.

Did you have a "7-hole" cluster before....or a "3-hole" idiot-light cluster?

I think you have to move wires in the connector on the back. I know you do on a 73-87

Both are 7 holes. Mark, do you mean rearrange wires on the connector?

No need to rewire. Clean all sockets and connections and install new bulbs. Check for good ground.
