Re: tranny ?

Shouldn't be too hard, you'll just have to cut a hole in the floor for the shifter, you might also need a different length drive shaft.

Re: tranny ?

Its more than likely a t5. Definately not the strongest tranny out there. You will need to move the transmission crossmember and have the driveshaft shortened. You will have to get the clutch dealt with. Im pretty sure the car has a hydraulic clutch. So you will have to mount the clutch master cylinder, figure out the pedal assembly etc. You will also need a flywheel and the clutch setup.

Re: tranny ?

Physically everything is the same. its a bolt in deal as far as engine to transmission. Everything else will have to be fabbed up.

Re: tranny ?

I would look for something stronger but that's just me.
I changed my truck from a diesel/auto to a gas/manual it's not all that hard, but the pedal linkage was a pain.

Re: tranny ?

I'm putting a T5 out of a 305 Camaro in my '78 C10 with a straight six 250. I'm putting an s10 tailhousing on it, and a different bellhousing so the trans is straight up, not at 17 degrees (or whatever) like in the F body. I kept the pedal assembly from the camaro...I'm defintely going with a hydraulic clutch, but I'm not sure yet if i want to use the camaro stuff, late square body or 88+ hydraulics. On a thread in the FAQ someone ordered a complete hydraulic linkage from LMC and bolted in it. I really don't like the old school mechanical linkage, and can't wait to pitch it.

EDIT:
Read the t5 swap threads in the engine section

Re: tranny ?

Something the other answers are passing over is the flywheel. The 87 model 305 engine in the Camaro will have a 1 piece rear main seal engine which uses a different flywheel than earlier 2 piece seal engines. If your truck's 305 is earlier, the flywheel won't work and you'll need to get a flywheel to match your engine.

Do you know what year the one piece seal started?
I have the flywheel still in my 250, and I also kept the flywheel from the '83 Camaro I got the trans from.

Re: tranny ?

87 began 1 piece rear main seals. 55-86 SBC engines had 2 piece seals. Flywheels do not interchange between the two due to crankshaft flange differences.
