Newbie to 1966 Shortbeds

Just got me a short bed! Not bad shape and I will post some pics soon. Heres what I wanna do. Keep the 6 but get it going it has the 2 barrel ancd no headers. What can I do? Seems like it is geared low as well. What's the best way to get a higher to end? Let me know guys I will be interested in you ideas I have seen a lot of great posts here! Thanks!

Welcome to the site. first you`ll need to focus on what you want, if your looking for more top end, you`ll need to change the rear axle gears, or whole rear axle itself. Most of these trucks came with 373 or 411 gears in the rear, with a six and a four speed they never had any so to speak top end even when new, but with a gear change will change that, then maybe a 5 speed from a camaro or early s10 will up the anti a little more.

Hey Thanks! Yea I was talking to a friend yesterday and I an honda do the gears with posi. Next I think a better carb headers and the lifters springs. I was thinking of just a rebuild cuz she smokes some and then while its out go for the disc brakes in the front. What you think?
