Question '71 K10 Frankenstein project

Hi everyone,

I'm sure this will be the first of many questions; all help and support is greatly appreciated. I'm working on this project for my son, and I'm trying to make the safety issues a top priority. The truck has swapped in 1 ton rears, specifically, a GM 14 bolt in the back.
I need all the parts necessary from the rear up to the front cable that's attached to the e-brake handle to connect the emergency brake. Whoever swapped in the rear just cut the cables and didn't feel an e-brake was necessary. The truck is a long bed, if it makes a difference. My local mechanic said he struck out with an LMC catalog, because we don't know what year the rear is from. Does it really make a difference? And more importantly, does anyone know what will work and where I can find parts, or have a contact that can help?

Thanks in advance!
