1966 custom windshield help

I am going crazy......I want a new windshield installed with custom trim in it in my 1966. The problem is there has been 3 differnt glass guy's trying for 2 days so far. I have the trim from my truck and 2 differnt sets of LMC rubbers don't seem to work ...the trim stays out of the groove like half a inch away from the window. I checked the part numbers and we are trying a new company's rubber as we speak ....anyone have any problems or ideas on this?.....Any pictures on how the trim goes into the groove?....Hey any help at all would be awsome....This is crazy....it all can't be the wrong rubbers....and the windshield is new.....so whats the secret with this .....please help

i am doing mine also my rubber seal is aweful tight on the glass so i put clampes all the way around the seal to hold it on the glass as it was pulling off because it seemed a little small use some heat and it will become more plyable anyway what i am going to do is remove the clamps from one quarter of the windsheild and put the trim in and re clamp and move to the next section now you really have to split the rubber wide open to get the base of the trim to lock in the trim has the small right angle at the bottom that has to kind of lock in i also suggest using soapy water in a spray bottle that will also help slide the trim in easier hope this helps

Are they installing the trim in the correct sequence? From the Chevy truck shop manual –

“NOTE: on custom cab series install reveal mouldings in channel after installing weather-strip channel to glass. Leave moulding caps off junctions until weatherstrip and glass are installed. Mild soap will facilitate installation of reveal mouldings”.

I just did this abt 2 mos ago-one thing-you need a Steele brand rubber. Place on w/s first(I let it set overnite), then install the trim in the groove-unlike the 60-63 you go ahead & install the end caps. I used masking tape to hold rubber on w/s & the trim in groove. Top in first, then sides, then bottom, using the rope method-took about 1 1./2 hours to install(two of us).

The rubber is the secret. I ordered the rubber from Steele and my glass guy had the windshield and trim installed in less that an hour.

i just got done putting mine in with the custom trim and it wasnt to bad got the seal from Brothers

i called LMC about my rubber for my 63 they told me they have been having problems with their windshield gaskets that's nice to know after i just paid a installer to screw it up going to try a different gasket next week it wont be an LMC can you guys put up the phone # for steele gaskets

Well i currently have 4 sets of custom windshield rubbers and nothing fits in right yet.......I just got back from the portland swap meet with yet one more that i hope will work. Going to make a last atempt phone call and then it's order a rubber from steele's and give that a shot i guess......is there more in the manual about installing the glass then the lines I saw abouve ?....Thanks again for all the help with this....

Well how does a guy say this with out it sounding bad ?....Okay so while i was getting all these phone calls from the body shop and seeing all the text pictures....The glass guy had 10 hours into the front window and couldn't get it to work with the trim, I was at the portland swap meet . I get back and see a front window half in. I call a friend he gives me the name of a old school glass guy...short version ...The other glass guy had the windshield rubber reversed...When you sit in your truck and look at the rubber there should be a waterfall stepped effect in the rubber with three ridges showing.From the outside it should be smooth with just the trim sitting tight to the rubber. The new glass guy had it in 45 mins. Moral of the story.....old glass needs old school installer....I never took the old one out and when they sent me pictures i couldn't tell from what was going on. Never going to make that mistake again...thanks for all the help with this....

i must be old because i got mine in!! but i must admit i put my seal in back wards the first try must feel good to get it i know i was!!!

I can't believe......that it took so long, but hey it sure feels great having a window in it now
