Advice needed on possible purchase
Hi all!
I spend most of my time over in the 60-66 forum, but I came across this potential next project and wondered if anyone had any input as to whether it was worth a bid. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1949-...#ht_500wt_1182 Thanks for any feedback! |

Re: Advice needed on possible purchase
Doesn't look too bad from the pictures. Floor is pretty standard! Glass is all flat so no problem. Grilles are available repop. This is a 3/4 or 1 ton truck (I didn't read) so you won't have the 6' bed. Stock brakes are more expensive and harder to find.
It looks worth a bid. It'd probably go for that price here in Michigan. |

Write up says 1 ton truck. 137 1/2" wheelbase. It is 19 1/2' bumper to bumper.

What are your plans for it?
Keep it a 1 ton or? Changing to a different frame? Getting rid of the I6? Last on the road 17 years ago minimum, field truck, lower third is all rust. My guess is most would want to put it on another frame with another engine and trans. If that's the case what useful parts are really left? |

Re: Advice needed on possible purchase
My plan is to ratrod it. Seems like a good candidate. Ive got a spare 350/350 combo from my current project to put in if the i6 is dead. Looks like a cheap, fun side project while i save up for the next phase of my '66. Think ratrod farm truck.

Re: Advice needed on possible purchase
Definitely a project. As a rule, when it comes to rust, figure that there is three times as much as what you see. Personally, if it were me, I would make contact with the seller, look the truck over and make an offer less than the buy it now price with cash in hand, literally, so he can see it, then leave him your number so he can call you when it doesn't sell. I am watching it and IMO, it won't go for $950.

Re: Advice needed on possible purchase
I agree, and i wouldnt pay 950 for it. This would be more of a diversion from my main project, and with the spare parts i have on hand i think i could get it on the road for under 1k if the purchase price is right

V8s aren't fun with that steering box.
