GM Radio tilting
I put my original GM radio in my 1970 c 10 and for some reason the radio is tilted down and I cannot find a bracket or anything. Can somebody help me straighten up my radio so it doesn't tilt?

Re: GM Radio tilting
When I still had the factory radio in my truck I can remember there being a bracket that it bolted to at the very back. I don't have a picture of it, but I remember it being a skank to take it out.
Just did a quick search and found this thread. Someone may have taken the bracket out of your truck. There is a pic of the bracket at the bottom of the thread that will give you an idea of what you will need. I'd check the parts board and see what you can find. Hope this helps. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...ad.php?t=38404

Re: GM Radio tilting
at the base of the windsheild there is a bracket that holds a nut clip and then a bracket that mounts from that to the back of the radio..
a piece of pipe hanger (home depot pluming ) will work.. it'll be a strip about an inch wide and 6" long or in a roll with holes in it every 1/2 " most aftermarket radios come with a bracket thats just like that.. warning it's a royal bi pain to get your hands back there.. I mounted mine to the radio then to the firewall bracket.. good luck.. Last edited by stich626; 03-31-2011 at 02:00 AM. |

Re: GM Radio tilting
This is the bracket mounting tab on the back of radio. Should be able to make one if your's has been removed. However, if I remember correctly, mine help up fairly well without the bracket with the proper mounting pieces in the front knobs. I still went ahead and installed a bracket.

Looks easy enough to fabricate one from aluminum angle stock

Re: GM Radio tilting
If someone could sketch it out on paper with measurements that would be awesome!

Re: GM Radio tilting
I just took the old radio out of our 69, if the bracket is still there I can get some measurements and what-not.

Re: GM Radio tilting
Mine has been without a rear brace for close to a year with no tilting issues.
I'll check and see if I still have the bracket that was attached to the radio when I received it. I know I still have the speaker and original harness. Mine original AM is only used as a dummy for the hidden system. |

Man, those fingers look familiar...... The larger piece with the two holes fastens to the inside of the firewall. If the holes aren't there there should be a couple of indented places where the holes need to be drilled. Don't forget these screws will go all the way through the firewall and show on the outside...
