Help with horn/ steering wheel needed
I have a 1972 GMC with the original saddle steering wheel.
My horn stopped working the other day and as I pulled it apart I found the metal disk that pops up and down was stuck. I noticed that it looks like my wheels is deformed into a more oval shape with what looks like a metal reinforcing ring has popped out and deformed. LMC is out of the repair kit for these, anyone else make one? Do I need to get a new steering wheel or modify what i have? It worked for a while until one day I slammed it when someone was cutting over into my lane and it refused to work after that. Any thoughts? I'm sure finding a saddle brown steering wheel will be difficult and I'd rather keep the original Thanks Bryan

Re: Help with horn/ steering wheel needed
These horns are real sensitive sometimes, have you tried to put it back together again? It might just need some adjusting after you beat it up.

Re: Help with horn/ steering wheel needed
I've taken it apart a few times to no avail, yes very touchy!
Now the plunger is stuck in the hub, have to pull the steering wheel to get it apart. Might have to rig up a temporary button so I can pass inspection coming up! ;-) And honk at those bad drivers out there.

Re: Help with horn/ steering wheel needed
The contact is made when the inner part of the diaphram spring touches the steering wheel around the edge of the nut. These have to be clean. The contact should spring up & touch the dia. Take a screw driver & touch the contact to the steering shaft. The horn should blow. If not the problem is under neath the steering wheel. Sometimes you dont get a ground through the rag joint. There should be a wire on it from one bolt to the other. If the horn does not blow when you touch the contact to the shaft try touching the contact to a ground on the dash with a jumper wire. If it blows then you have a ground problem. Dont get discouraged. Once you understand how it works it is not that hard.
