WIW 3 Speed Manual Overdrive??

I have a 68' truck with a factory three speed manual overdrive. I have heard of them before, but I have never actually run across one. I plan to remove it some time this summer. The truck is not running, so I have no way to verify the condition and based on what information I have found I am guessing the going rate is around $300. Is that reasonable? Thanks Greg

Re: WIW 3 Speed Manual Overdrive??

Sort of......from what I've been able to understand from the information I've found on this site, there is an electric servo/solenoid that mounts to the tail housing. It's energized above a certain speed and when you engage it, there is a kind of internal clutch that it disengages and allows a gear reduction of .7 to 1. The gearing is all contained in the tail housing, and has a canister sticking out from the side of it. Greg

Yes $300 is the going rate for a working one here in AZ, i HAVE A GUY LOOKING FOR ONE recently, THERE ARE 2 STYLES; THE BETTER ONE HAS 7 BOLTS ON THE SIDE COVER.
Make sure you take all associated hardware, theres a gas pedal kickdown of some sort & the electrical wiring that is particular to these.

Keep me in mind when you pull it. I would be a buyer if you have all the wiring and brackets.

Thanks, After a little reading about these, I checked, it has a 7 bolt side cover, the condition of the wiring is unknown. I was unaware of the switch at the gas pedal though, I'll have to look for it. Thanks again, Greg

Re: WIW 3 Speed Manual Overdrive??

Hi Greg, I agree that $300 is a fair price. Do you have the chrome T-handle "OVERDRIVE" pull cable? I have a few of these transmissions, but I'm unsure of the correct length of cable. I would appreciate a measurement once you have it out. Thanks, Sharpie

Dennis, I do not have a "t-handle", but I will let you know the length of the cable when I pull it. Greg
