My 67 chevy c10 lwb originally had the inline 6 with 3 spd overdrive on the tree. Okay dropped in my 350/th350 and everything lined up perfect. I lined the motor towers with the 2 holes closest to front end. and the trans crossmember lined up perfect. Now the problem is my 2 piece driveshaft does not reach the trans. Its about 1 or 2 inches away from it. I thought maybe I would have to move the mounts closer to the firewall but I dont think the holes will line up with the towers. I was told I would have to take the driveshaft to get it extended. Just wanted to see other people thoughts or ideas. Thank you

if that's where you want the engine, then you need a new driveshaft.

Yea I for sure like the engine where its at.. Thanks I will check around to see where a good place is to lengthen it.

I have never heard of lengthening a driveshaft...only shortening one.

They just take the two ends out and put them in a longer tube.

Just wanted to know if anyone has ever takin their 2 piece driveshaft to get extended to fit? Or if you have a longbed can you also have a 1 piece shaft. Which is better the 2 piece or 1?

ive been doing some research on this and most agree a longbed should have a two piece

If I remember correctly there is a maximum length for a one piece drive shaft and a one piece shaft for the longbeds exceeds that length. I know there have been guys do it and I think they had to use a larger diameter tube and modify the center crossmember.

the traditional answer is no more than 6 feet for a steel shaft.
Now with new metals being used, you can make them over 6 foot long.
Personally, I feel a 2 piece is a better design. Can handle larger torque levels, and can 'bend' in the middle to keep the u joint angles at a safe level.

I lenthen driveshafts almost every day, be sure to take oth pieces so they can allance the shaft as an assemly. A good measurement to have is tailshaft to center of carrier bearing.
just take it to powertrain industries I'm pretty sure they are close.

Well went over to "Chevy truck & Foreign" in Santa Ana,Ca today. Took in the 2 piece driveshaft and we measured it out over there. He went in the back got 2 different front shaft to trans. One was the same size I had and another was almost 2 inches longer I believe. So now I got what I needed. Thanks fellas. Oh cost me $50 plus went to "Truck shop" in Orange,ca and Got me the center driveshaft support bearing for $18. So I am set to go now. One thing at a time. Getting there. Thanks for the help all.
