Question 1970 Chevy Stepside Vin# problem?

I recently bought a 1970 Chevy Stepside (short bed) 4x4...The Vin on the Title is ND10927C88. I cannot find anything on this VIN. I have Clear Texas Title to it but cannot decode the vin. It was an original South Dakota Title. Possibly Rebuilt.

Funny thing is that I have already done all the body work, painted it up nicely and spent money getting the 350 to run like new. So, it looks and runs great.

Any ideas?

I looks as if the frame was cut/welded to possibly shorten it but unsure it is really well done. May have been a Fleetside to start with.

Re: 1970 Chevy Stepside Vin# problem?

your vin should start KE134 or something similar for a 4x4 1970 half ton pickup. you may have a state issued replacement vin. ND = north dakota ???ive never seen one but ive heard of it. you should have a gm vin plate in the driver door jam as well as a glovebox sticker with the vin and 2 or more frame stampings of partial vin on the driver side frame rail one is on top of the frame rail between the steering gear and the motor mount bracket. the other frame stamping is under the cab somewhere. every state is different some will issue a new vin for a truck that has been pieced together atleast thats what ive heard never seen it., most go with the vin number on the cab reguardless of what frame bed motor etc it was rebuilt with. LMC truck has a vin decoder in their online catalog on page 10 if you find a real number to research. good luck !

Re: 1970 Chevy Stepside Vin# problem?

Thanks for the Info......I bet it is a South Dakota Issued Vin#. It has the new VIN# plate rivoted above the driver's door jamtag.
