Brake Pads?
I think it's about time for new pads for my '70 - I've been using the same old Raybestos pads in it since I did the ECE drop/disc conversion, and that was 4 years / 35,000 miles ago!
Anyway, while I can't really complain about the Raybestos pads, I want to know if anyone has any experience with anything else and compared to them...I don't remember which pads exactly they are, I'll have to email Early Classic and find out. They're not the QS but I think they're the one just below that. The pad I'm interested in particularly is the Performance Friction Z-Rated pad. It's just $40 for the whole front (compared to $60 for the Raybestos pads) and everything I've read so far looks good. Just want to know if anyone has run them on a truck yet.

You have picked the right pads- the Perfomance Friction Z speed rated pads from Autozone. I had a lot of trouble with my front brakes on my 97 Z71, ie: warped rotors and burnt/cracked pads. I put these on a couple years ago and have not had any problems since. They are quiet, and don't seem to dust as bad as the previous 3 other sets I used. Oh, the other sets that did not last were the factory pads and Napa AE (which cost much more). I also put them on my 69 truck, they are real good.

Glad to hear from someone who's used them. Pretty sure I'll go with them, especially considering they're cheaper than the Raybestos pads.
(And not surprised to hear about brake problems on a '97; my mom's '97 Suburban had all sorts of brake problems...I don't think the Z-rateds were available yet, though, and even with the regular PF Carbon Metallics - which we've used on the '94 Z28 with great results - it still made gobs of noise, and had horrible pedal feel.)

I've had the Perf Friction on all four corners of my '97 T/A for about 3 years now with no problems at all. They actually produce less dust than the factory originals, and stop better to boot.

I put Raybestos metallic pads on my 72 Nova and they SUCK. They fade as bad as the OEM Chevy pads did. I used to use Delco metallics, but haven't been able to find them lately. They don't fade & they don't squeal. I have cheap Albany metallics from Autozone on my 88 Tbird, & they work surprisingly well even with the little 10" discs.
