Converting from glass to blade fuses?
I hate glass fuses...I keep breaking them every time I have to replace one. (Not that I've had to replace one in a long time...but I do have one that's missing it's glass!!!)
I posted a (long) while back about the possibility of an adapter that would fit in the space of a glass fuse, and give you the socket to plug an ATC or ATM blade fuse into instead. Someone replied saying that such an idea was already on the market...if it is, they need to do better marketing because I can't find it! Any ideas?

I thought someone on here used a later model truck harness that used the blades.

I'd just as soon not replace the harness (yet) - it's mostly in great shape, I just don't want to deal with the glass fuses anymore.

I converted my C30 to blade fuses when I COMPLETELY rewired the truck from stem to stern the way I wanted it. I slid the later-model fuseblock into the glove box while I was at it. You can just see it in the dash picture in my signature. I wouldn't recommend doing so unless you really liked wiring. It took me an entire winter to design and wire just the cab....

Someone makes a replacement box that you hook you oem harness to.It might be American autowire.

How are you removing them? If you are prying them out with a screwdriver, they WILL break (i know this from experience, lol). I bought a package of glass fuses last year, and it had a cheap little plastic tool in it for removing the fuses. It just hooks on to the fuse, and you start pulling it out at one of the ends, then remove it at the other end. The tool and 30 fuses were less than $3.....

I know what tool you're talking about...and it doesn't work for me. The terminals on mine are so stiff that the plastic doesn't hold up!

hmm...i always use the test light probe to pop mine out, because i always need to check something down there and accidentally blow a fuse. i stick it under the metal part of the fuse and not the tube...have never had a single one break. i think they are cooler than the blade fuses and easier to see if theyre bad.

Heres a thought..replace all of the fuses with Bussman type CBF glass fuse replacement breakers or equivalent:

You should be able to get these from an automotive supply house. NAPA, O'Reilly's, etc. or an electronic suppy company like Newark.
