The second idea would be a cool fix, but I don't think you will gain enough clearance. From the pix it looks like the front header mount bolt is 1.5" away from going in. I don't think there is enough material on the mount to accomendate the mod. Not saying it can't be done. The amount you have circled will not help. Try it and see. That's the way I learn. That's my .o2 from what I can see.
