newbie question
Hello all, I just purchased a 72 cheyenne fleetside shortbox out of eugene oregon. It is a factory 4 speed posi, Medium blue with medium blue interior. It is 95% rust free. It has its numbers matching motor that has spun a bearing. Now that it is apart my question is should I put it back original or put a stroker 383 kit in it? I love these trucks and not a expert on values of them. wondered if it hurt the value to stroke the original motor. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Watching Mecum Auctions on TV and seeing these style trucks roll across the stage I learned a new shiney crate motor upgrade does not hurt the value. As long as the engine is equal or greater in size and power it should be a good thing. Custom trucks are becoming more popular it seems from these auctions.
 I am not a expert but I do watch every Truck and Car Auction when they are on tv.

I would say no, it will not hurt your truck to put a different motor in it. Unless your truck is a numbers matching museum piece, the only thing a future buyer will care about is how well it drives. The only thing I would consider with a 383 is the decrease in mpg, but I drive my truck everyday.

Are you woried about the value, or do you want to enjoy your truck? If you you bought it for resale, why would you spend more money to rebuild the engine that it takes to go back to stock? If you want to keep it and drive it don't worry about it and have at it. If you don't enjoy your truck, what's the point? I say it is your truck build it the way you want it. If you are worried about hurting the original engine, then pull it, send it to storage and buy a motor you are willing to do whatever you want to with. Then if you want to go back you can. WES

Ya, build it the way you want it to be. You can please the stock custom or rat guys all you want, but if you're not happy with what you did why do it?
Besides the benifits for what you want is inside the engine and you cant see that. The 383 has its benefits and if they match up to what you want to get out of the engine then do it. Tasteful gets the eye.  to the board! You'll get a lot from these guys....I have!!!

Thanks guys. No interest in selling. Since engine is out I think I will stroke the original engine. Let the fun begin!
