My 69 C/10 project
Hi all, I've been doing a few odds and ends to my truck, I use it every day to work out of unless I have some spare time to replace some of the rusting parts. I bought some inner fenders and a radiator support during the winter and since the weather is warming up, I thought I'd replace them. I also changed out the wiring harness to the front end. I took some before and after pictures and wanted to share them. Everything I've used so far is used. It takes some time to shine them back up, but I'm saving some money and I'm satisfied with the results.. Here's what I've accomplished so far..

Re: My 69 C/10 project
I'm readt to paint the inner fenders and radiator support, Took a wire brush on my drill and a sanding mouse and smoothed everything up. Put some rust proof paint on first then a coat of regular paint to get the shine and added some undercoating on the inner fenders Rust Olium Brand...

Re: My 69 C/10 project
Thanks for the vote of confidence, I got the inner fenders mounted along with the radiator and support, new support bushings, new bolts and clips for the fenders. I had a pretty rough time with the bolts under the inner fenders. They had broken off. So I drilled them out and rethreaded them. Put about twice the bolts in than I took out. I'm hoping that will take some rattle out of it. Thats about it for today. The weather here is awesome today. Need to spend some time with my other baby, don't want her to feel like she's being left out.

Re: My 69 C/10 project
Got a little more accomplished today. Install the swaybar I purchased from KrazyRay, Bought the bushings from Brothers. Moved my tranny cooler from the grill to the radiator support used brackets and clamps instead of plastic ties. Going to post a couple pics of my progress to keep up with.

I have about $80 in the whole thing. KrazyRay had a few for sale on here and I bought one from him. I've been working on my grill today, going to post a few pics, shortly

Re: My 69 C/10 project
Got another day to work on my grill, After I took it off. I sprayed it down with paint stripper (aersol type), let it sit for a few minutes to get the paint off and it help remove any grease and bugs. After wiping the stripper off I sprayed it down with oven cleaner (easy off) let that sit for around an hour, took a water hose and hosed it off. I let it dry by on its own. That removed all the oxidation. I started with 400 grit sand paper and started sanding by hand. Sanded about 3 hours on and off the first day. Decided I needed to do something else. I took a black/decker sanding mouse with 320 grit and pretty much knocked it out in an hour. Still had to use the 400 grit to smooth out the swirls, also took a small brass bristle brush to get into the knooks.. still went over that with the 400 grit. After getting the grill smoothed up I hosed it down again then took 1000 grit sand paper and wet sanded the entire grill again. Thats it for now, I'm going to polish and shine it up tomorrow and put it back on the truck, hope to post pics of the finished product then...All total I have about 4 hours of actual work into it.... First two pics are before and last to are after sanding. Oxidation had been removed.

Re: My 69 C/10 project
Looks good! Aren't you going to need to clear coat it with something to prevent it from oxidizing?

Re: My 69 C/10 project
Yes, I' going to use a clearcoat spray after I buff and shine it up. It can also be oxidized, but I have no idea how that works. I've read in other threads that clearcoating it will work, may not last as long. But that's the route I'm taking. Thanks for the question.

Re: My 69 C/10 project
Polished my grill today, starting to shine now. Used Mothers aluminum cleaner and a buffer. Have the black painted back on it. Put new letters on it. Sprayed it down with clearcoat Dupont brand. I'm satisfied with the results. It's not show quality, by far. It didn't cost much, just a little time...

I got those awhile back. I think I got them on ebay. Actually forgot about having them. I'll check and see if I can find when I bought them.
