Can I have some Step notch pics/help?
Im going to be installing a step notch I got from QAR(suicidedoors). Well yesterday, I tacked one side together to see what it will look like and I kinda got nervous about what I'm about to do. What I think I'm going to do is knock it back loose and tack the sides to the frame and tack it together like that and see how it looks. Can someone post up some installation pictures or just some good pics for me to get a better idea? It's going on a 67 swb stepper too btw. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Can I have some Step notch pics/help?
When I install the step, where am I supposed to position it on the frame? I mean is the top of the step supposed to be centered on the axel? Is the truck supposed to be at ride height or dropped when I install it? Stuff like that is where my problems are. Thanks for the pictures too.

Re: Can I have some Step notch pics/help?
Thanks 67chevy, what are or did you put back in place of those cross sections you had to cut out to fit the notch? Or do you not need anything due to the cross section between the notches?

Wow, that looks a little complicated. Thanks though man, I'm going to check out your thread. That's what I was hoping this thread would do, bring some people in with build threads I can check out. Thanks again man, I really appreciate it.

Re: Can I have some Step notch pics/help?
I too am just about to fitt a step notch,
My thoughts are; measure the small arc from the front center mounting bolt of the rear controll bars, (main link from crossmember to axle) and add diameter of axle + 1" either side for clearance, put this middle bottemed out dimension in the center of your c notch, ?? ore have i got it wrong,?? |

Re: Can I have some Step notch pics/help?
Most people center the notch over the axle. But you have a few things to consider first. do you have a 4 link, stock truck arms , or stock leaf springs ?.
a 4 link will keep the axle pretty close to center most of the time as well as a leaf spring ( mono leaf + blocks) however the truck arms will move the axle back when lowered untill parallel with the frame then forward after parallel of the frame rails,. so do you want the axle centered when driving or when dropped or both? thats the difference between a truck and a show truck. you can see on the black truck the wheels are shifted forward a bit when laid out. so do you care or not. some people move the truck arm crossmember to accomodate their axle position. either way its your call but once you weld the notch in, the axle should be centered above the location you chose...

Re: Can I have some Step notch pics/help?
Man you are a car salesman. . 63 is a beautiful car but imho the 62 is the best impala ever. i'm limited on space at the house so i have to be real picky about what i want. HOA doesnt allow "project vehicles in the driveway" i have 2 projects at dads and a friend with a few acres where i can store temporarily but i can only do one project at a time. so i will have to pass unless you want to give it to me.
