Final decision!! What do you think?
I have made my final decesion on how I am going to build my 6.0L. This really boils down to me having too much time on my hands to think about stuff. I have always wanted a turbo motor so I am going to build my shortblock to handle that now so I can slowly gather parts for a turbo. I am going to buy a 390ci stroker kit from AES for $1,995 that comes w/Callies Crank, Callies Rods, CP dished pistons, Clevite bearings and rings. It will be a 3.825" stroke with a 4.030 bore, they have had this combo up to 900rwhp with a stock iron block w/ARP studs so it will handle more than what I plan to throw at it. Everything with the exception of a cam will be stock up top. All this fits into my budget of $8,500. I am also rebuilding a 9", rebuilding my suspension, and rewiring the whole truck. This should be a fun build!!! Sorry for all the threads but like I said, I have way too much extra time to think about this. If I post anything different send a vitrual pimp slap my way!!(with virtual baby powder of course)

Hold on, Powder. Let's not get "ignant."
I love that movie, you got to keep your pimp hand strong. Anyway, looks like a good plan, make sure you add in better rods and springs if your going to be putting a new cam up top. If my lq4 pops I would def consider that assembly, especially for the price.

Re: Final decision!! What do you think?
Springs and P-Rods are in the budget. I got the approval from my financial supervisor today!!! She is actually excited!!
The price can't be beat. I was going to go a different route and just replace the rods and pistons with forged units but once it is all said and done it comes out to be about the same price just in parts!!! I can sell off a lot of stuff coming off the truck and make enough money back to put towards some good heads or a 4l80e trans.

Re: Final decision!! What do you think?
Just wondering why you are going with the 3.875" stroke vs the 4" stroke. Are they not the same price?
I'm assuming you are factoring in pricing for the block work too? If you are assembling the motor and having a local machine shop do the block work, make sure to get the pistons so they can measure each one when setting the bores. Also, make sure AES does not file fit any of the rings, you want to do that based on your finished block. I'm pretty sure AES will send it to you that way anyway, but I know the LS shop I used didn't and I had to have some things redone.

Re: Final decision!! What do you think?
The crank is a 3.825" stroke and after reading alot and talking to AES the 390 stoker kit results in a stronger piston using the shorter stroke, shorter stroke has more journal overlap, 1/10" more journal overlap then 4.000" crank. Thicker top ring land is able to absorb the heat, less chances of cracking or affecting the structure of the piston. All this is straight from AES. I do plan to put a turbo on it and this is a proven combo from a quite a few guys over on LS1tech.

Re: Final decision!! What do you think?
I can totaly see having a little more material down by the bottom of the skirt and the wrist pin. Reason I went 4.00" stroke and not 4.10" stroke. Knowing I was going to be spraying on it.

Re: Final decision!! What do you think?
Other than that the price is amazing. Just to add eagle rods and wiseco forged was damn near the same price as the whole "kit". Add in the balancing, bearings and it would have brought the price up to, if not more than the kit.

Re: Final decision!! What do you think?
Yeah, I ditched the 4l80e idea and I am going to go with a th400. I will probably go through Jake's for that bc he helped me out with alot of questions and has good prices.
