pinion angles

The truck 82 half ton dropped 6 in the front and 6 in the back

I'm having u-joint problems obviously' but what i was wondering what angles do the pinions have to be, or what shims to order, is what i need to find out. The truck has a two piece drive line so the carrier bearing and the rear needs shimmed, i heard that 2 degrees within the carrier and trans is what i was told just wondering what everyone els did with the shims.
