Show me some different motors

Im looking to see pictures of motors other than the usual LS swap 350 bigblocks and cummins... heres why... My brother has a cobalt SS turbo... ive fallen in love with how the turbo helps the gas mileage and how it makes that little car fly... another reason is my friend just wrecked is 1998 supra... inline 6 turbo... told me i could have the whole drive train and wiring for 1k... the motors got 98kmiles... never burned any oil... and maintained since im the one who did all the work on it since i am a certified toyota tech...

im really just looking to see something different under the hood of these trucks... and i know im not the first to feel this way but if i have to be ill be the first one to drop a toyota turbo in a chevy

You can probably put any engine in there within reason, if you have good fab skills. Go for it!

Re: Show me some different motors

I like youtr thinking.
I once pondered with the idea, the engine will fit just fine, nice and low. Biggest concern was mating the JZ to a transmission that had a slip yoke. There are kits out now that will mate a JZ to TH series transmission or tremec Manual, I may even have the cad file somewhere on my work computer.

I instead fell in love with the UZ engine, will be twin turbo.

Re: Show me some different motors

only thing i could think of that could go wrong is... can the tranny hold up to the weight of the truck? and even then im sure they make kits to strengthen the tranny... all these thoughts came from being a 19yo and not knowing whats gonna be cooler a car or a truck... and my pocket says truck... cause A) insurance companies dont think they can go fast and B) cause i would love to beat the a$$ of some honda civic that thinks he can go fast having a fart can hanging out the backside of his car

The stock transmission of a JZ does not have a slip yoke, so becareful of your planning

Re: Show me some different motors

I understand that the big blocks will destroy little civics and there own rear tires at that but lets be honest with gas prices rising and the truck being my daily driver once i get it running its not feasible to run a 496 with a turbo like i really want to... so why not the supra motor that is better on gas and can still produce the same power within the same price range as a 496 would cost to build

Re: Show me some different motors

If it was me i would find a 6.0 the lq4 out of a newer truck and a 4l80e and re gear it to match the trans. If that's not enough power throw a blower on it or heads or cam you get the idea.A 2jz can make power but it lacks torque and most 1k hp supra's only run a 11 sec quarter mile.I'm a recovering ricer i had a rb25det in a 240sx it was a money pit.

How about a v8 drivrtrain from a wrecked Toyota Tundra? Those things are fast and being a Toyota tech you could figure out the computor stuff that would probably be nightmare for anyone else.

That's the winning combo - stroke the 6.0L to around 400 cubes, L92 heads and a turbo or supercharger. Good fuel economy, insane power with an iron block that'll handle anything you can throw at it.

By the way, most true gearheads call 'em engines.

Re: Show me some different motors

I have thought about the new tundra motors... stock 334hp and then i could get a supercharger at employee discount... 2k less... and put it on the work credit card...

i know the 6.0 is a good motor and puts down alot of power but i wanna get away from the norm and hit something that no ones ever done before... all this comes off the top of the head when im sitting on top of my tool box on rainy days like this

One-of-a-kind projects are EXPENSIVE, due in large part to the fact that you have nobody else's mistakes to learn from, plus adapters, etc. cost a lot. I know you probably thrive on the challenge, but what's a real challenge is selling something that's half done because you ran out of money or motivation.
Go with something that's tried and true - parts are available, the ground work has been done and it'll be worth more when you're finished.

I would like to see this. Not trying to be rude, but I find this very hard to believe.

Re: Show me some different motors

The only issue I see in putting a ricer engine in a large truck is the weight of the truck itself. Those small displacement will not like pushing the extra 2,000lbs or so our trucks carry around. We like low end torque to get our heavy beasts moving, and the ricer engines like high rpm's. Not a friendly combination as I see it. I suppose high stall and short gear ratios could aid in this, but r&d in this dept could get very frustrating and expensive.
