Question Suspension swapping??

MY dad is currently restoring a '40 dodge truck, it is a 2wd 1 - 1.5 ton truck. What I wanna know is how hard would it be to swap the suspension form a late 70's 4x4 into it. I dont know about the motor and trans because my dad just rebuilt the stock one, but he might have to scratch it. I am trying to get him to build a big 4x4 with like 36- 38 tires on it, he says he wants to make it something other than stock so hopefully he will go for this. What should we watch out for, any tips?? Thanks
