Chrome or Polished
I could of sworn I saw a thread on here asking opinions about which is the best finish on wheels, but I can't find it anywhere.
So, out of curiousity, let me hear your what you think.

Re: Chrome or Polished
chrome is more shiney and less maintanence. But I prefer the look of polished. I think chrome looks cheap.

Re: Chrome or Polished
Normally I would have to say chrome, because I like to dress up my 99 with chrome accents, but what do all those accents have in common? Cheap. Chrome used to be a top of the line thing that got turned into the cheap market and now today you see all kinds of "chrome" on the road and you never know if its the real deal or plastic with mirror coated paper. With polished it looks real and solid and a little more subtle which is what I like to go with on my old rigs. Chrome is just too mainstream.

Has anybody had their polished aluminium rims powder coated in clear to cut down on the maintenance?

Re: Chrome or Polished
Like already mentioned, chrome is less maintenance. I'd rather have chrome, but I can afford polished mo betta.

Re: Chrome or Polished
Polished to me is a classic statement to me. Chrome is nice if on the right wheel...2 or 3 piece wheels...its really about saying look I spent a butt load of money on my custom made for my car only. I wouldnt put polished wheels on a brand new modern car I would put a nice set of 3 piece wheels in chrome. But on a classic car polished is the way to go kind of more period correct. and just incase any ask......spinners dont belong on anything!

Re: Chrome or Polished
I have polished on my 71, polished on my 97 Yukon, and chrome on my car. If you live in a 4 season area like I do....take both of them off in the winter. the road chemicals are getting worse each year. Took me 2 hours on each wheel to polish my chrome as i kept them on too long before changing to winter rims and tires this year.
I put a product on my 97 polished a few years ago called "Sharkhide". Haven't had to polish them since! It's a specialized coating designed for aluminum pontoons on .....you guessed it...pontoon boats! Took the luster down a little. but sure nice not to ever have to worry about them. Just picked up my 71 last fall so haven't sealed the Dick Cepec DC1's yet. Summer project. |

Re: Chrome or Polished
Either highly polished good quality billet or chrome....the cheaper aluminum wheels always look dull IMHO...

Re: Chrome or Polished
Chrome, but on a clean, not overly blingy wheel. Low maintainence is my goal. Wipe it off, no polishing. Chrome wheels on my 06 daily driver look great, get lots of compliments, and wipe right off for cleaning in any weather. (no salt down here)
