Do I have the correct Head Light Buckets?

I can't seem to get them to line up. The spring seems to be way out of alignment. Any Thoughts or pictures would be great

your right side bucket is wrong the adjusters should be on top and towards the center of the grill like your left side

Hi, Jugernot, I was just thinking about asking you for any updates, did you get the e-brake cable figured out?
I just picked up a 68 front clip this w/e, I took the headlight buckets out during disassembly
Looking at you pics I dont see anything diffrent from mine, its dark here now so a pic I cannot take. If you still have questions I will try to take some pics tomorrow afternoon.

I think they changde to the set up your describing in the later models. There are no other square holes for the adjusting screw to mount to. The Rad support is different for certain years also.

No I sure didnt get the intermediate cable figured out. Im not sure whats wrong. I was thinking about ording another intermediate cable to see if that helps. I also thought about taking apart the rear brakes, connecting the cable and then putting the brakes back together.

Pics would be good. What I think I need is pics of where the spring attaches to the bucket.

Thanks

On another note; I went to two auto parts stores today and neither of them carried or could order headlights for my truck.

Looks like your springs are hooked into the wrong spot. There's 3 holes for the headlight retainer ring, and it looks like your springs are hooked into them.

Re: Do I have the correct Head Light Buckets?

This one really has me confused. I thought the left right adjusters were on the inside of each light??? But I am sure if you had a square hole on the inside of the pass. light you would have used it... The one thing I can say for sure is the spring does not go in tab with the little hole. It goes in the slit on the top rim of the basket. Except it looks like one basket has it cut off! If I had to guess you have them swapped???

Re: Do I have the correct Head Light Buckets?

I moved the spring from the retaining bezel screw hole. The passenger side bucket has a slit on the top lip, so I moved the spring to that spot. But the drivers side bucket does not have a hole new the spring.

I looked at the classic parts of america web site. For 62-68 chevy trucks it looks like there is one bucket for both sides. The 69-72 buckets are different for each side. Looking at the pictures on the site and my pictures, my drivers side bucket is correct for a 68, but the the one I have on the passenger side is for a 69-72. Can anyone comfirm this?

First pic is for a 62-68. second pic is for 69-71 according to the classic parts of america web site

Re: Do I have the correct Head Light Buckets?

ok I could get the headlight in the house to get a quick pic, so hope this helps
The spring actually attaches to the headlight retainer ring at about the 4:00 position when looking straight on.

Good to know I will look at my NEW retaining rings to see if they have that hole. If you have a chance later, could you let me know if your buckets look to be the same or different.

Thanks

I just looked back at the pics you posted of your truck, do you have a 68 on the driver side and a 69 up on the passenger side?

Re: Do I have the correct Head Light Buckets?

I ran into the exact same problem when restoring the core support on my '68.

I found that both the left and right headlight buckets are THE SAME on the '68's, and different on the later years. When the buckets are installed correctly, the oval cut-out above the larger opening of the bucket should point UP (see photo). This orients the headlight tabs correctly into the bucket, and allows access to the headlight plug and wires.

I found some things that worked really well when replacing the headlight adjusters. In the HELP section at AutoZone, I found that Chrysler Headlight adjuster screws worked in place of the old Chevy screws. I also found that plastic license plate snap-ins worked to replace the old, broken plastic adjusters.

Here are a couple of photos I took just for reference. Nice truck by the way!

Re: Do I have the correct Head Light Buckets?

I just ordered some new buckets and Euro headlights from Early Classic and will probably have them by tomorrow.
