Ok,finally decided i needed more than just the 1 center dash speaker to listen to some tunes(mostly country of course)

. Well i got a good deal on some pioneer 6 x 9's already in the little 6 x 9 truck boxes. Got them today,and upon trying them out,they wont fit easily behind the seat. I was wondering if anyone out there has tried putting 6 x 9's in the cab corners with the factory 4 x 10 grills or some kind of homemade grills? I'm open for suggestions

I had and Audio shop up the street from me make a custom box to fit the 6x9's in the corner. It worked out great.

They won't fit? I have Pioneer 6X9's in truck boxes back behind my seat and the seat is pushed all the way back. (82 Chevy Scottsdale K10 LB)

The boxes are a wedge shape and I just have them sitting so that the 6 X 9 is pointing straight up. I was afraid that this might be too much treble and make my ears bleed, but the top part of the back of the seat goes back enough to where it blocks a lot of the sound. Works out pretty well and puts out enough to hear them going down the highway with all 3 windows open.

Hey Rockman..can you take a picture of how your speakers are sitting behind the seat? Maybe the boxes i have are just bigger than yours.

i had no problem with mine but i also made my speaker boxes and i fit two 6x9 3 ways behind the seat no problem

Did GM ever offer 6X9 speakers in the rear of its PU trucks as an option?

I would love to find a set of those if they exist.

I would just build my own box... Much cheaper...

Does anyone know the sizes of the door speakers, rear speakers and the dash speaker? If your truck didn't come stock with a dash speaker (either that or mine just doesn't work, I don't have a stock deck, some junky Panasonic crap...), is there mounting gear under the dash for a speaker? I want to replace all of the speakers in my truck as these ones just can't take loud music without distorting right away. The door speakers I have are behind little "cups" that screw onto my door...

A friend of mine has mounted some large 6X9 speakers in the cab corners using the original 4X10 mounts. What you have to do is to switch sides, left to right and right to left. It changes the mounting angle of the speakers so that the larger magnets fit in the corners.

You can also try to find some aftermarket 6X9 corner mounts. Several people here have them. I was not able to locate any of them new, and it took me almost a year to find a set in a junkyard truck.

I have some pics of mine around here somewhere if you need to see what they look like.

Somebody (not sure who), make an adapter kit to go from a 4x10 to a 6x9, I was accually looking at this today at the parts store. Just check around, I'm sure you will find it.

I will see if I can snag a digital camera from work here and take some pics tonight when I get home.

Before the pics are taken, no commenting on how messy behind my seat is!

I have tie-downs, tow straps, jumper cables, a blue tarp, my ball mount for my receiver hitch, etc, etc.

The dash speakers are 4 inch.Odd size as they are for chev and Vw.Most stores stock 4 1/2 but they won,t fit.I have Pioneer which costs 75 cdn a set

I used some 7/16" OSB I found laying around the house and mounted 6x9 to it and mount in the rear cab corners. Works good for me.

Actually, the dash speakers are 3 1/2s.

I did pretty much the same in my 84. I have Infinity Kappa 6x9's mounted to a piece of 3/4 mdf that I used velcro to mount at a 45 degree angle in my cab corners. Works great.

I got a set of plastic 6x9 speaker housing made for retro fitting 6x9's in the corners of trucks. Got them at a local audio place for cheap and they work fine. One day, I'll get one of those, fancy looking, kick panel mounted speaker thingies like Lohrtbt has..

The seat will not go back anymore. This was set before anything was even put behind the seat. So it is either all the way back or else the rails on the seat are not working properly. I would say that it is all the way back though because the top part of the back is almost touching the rear of the cab. If it went back any further, the rear of the cab would start pushing the seat back forward.

I am a hair over 6 foot and I sit very comfortably in the truck.

That is how i thought you meant they were sitting,just makeing sure. Those look like the same boxes i have. I would have to be 5 feet tall to sit those in my truck like that. When im in the truck,if i put a 44 oz. cup like you get from the Speedway gas station for a fountain drink between my legs,its rubbing the steering wheel. Maybe my seat is just messed up,i dont know.

Hey, at least your seat folds down!! Mine is a car seat and doesn't fold. I had to stuff my box back there. Its one box with two speakers in it. $20 at Wally World. Works pretty good, except the speakers face forward and the rear of the seat muffles the sound when the seat is all the way back. (Which it needs to be, cause I'm almost 6'2".:p ) I keep it one or two clicks forward and it was uncomfortable at first, but I got used to it.

i hear ya navy ive got the same box but i bought some different speakers and installed them im 6'1 i got used to it after a month but when i jump into mom 01 quad cab dodge and skoot the seat back man i miss that,im thinking of doin some wood work and filling the cab corners again. ive got a 600 watt amp behind the seat 2, no obstructions from that with the seat back.
