Missing Oil Dipstick Tube Bolt

I am missing the bolt that attaches the dipstick tube to the engine. Does anyone know the size of this bolt or where I can get one.

Re: Missing Oil Dipstick Tube Bolt

There is an opening just above where the exhaust manifold attaches on the engine block. I tried a 1/2 in bolt and it was close but just a bit to big.

Re: Missing Oil Dipstick Tube Bolt

Still having problems with this. I tried 3/8 and 5/16. The 3/8 was very close but a bit to big. 5/16 is way to small. It seems like 9mm it about the correct size. Did Chevy use 9mm bolts in 86 on the 454? Can anyone help me with this I am really stuck.

Re: Missing Oil Dipstick Tube Bolt

The dipstick tube should bolt on with one of the 3/8's exhaust manifold bolts.

Re: Missing Oil Dipstick Tube Bolt

Thank you very much. I was starting to think that was the solution. Looks like someone had pulled some accessory or bracket from the engine and the hole was very close to where the dipstick mounted. Had me all confused.

On the bottom of the dipstick tube there is a round bevel that I guess is supposed to stop the dipstick tube from going all the way in the oil pan. On mine I have about an inch between the round bevel and the tip of the opening for the dipstick tube. Am I supposed to push the dipstick tube in further?
