Spindles

If I replace the original spindles with 2.5 drop spindles, Will I have to go with different top & bottom ball joints? I bought some new stock ball joints from the auto parts store and the pin holes won't line up with the nut. Here is a pic of the bottom ball joint. Not a very good pic. Thanks in advance... Dave

What year drop spindle?
What year ball joints did you buy?

The aftermarket spindle companies (Belltech, McGaughy's, CPP, POL, Western, etc) make year specific spindles so you don't have to change anything.

They break down as follows:
60-62
63-70
71-72
73-87

Re: Spindles

Not to hijack the thread but is there a breakdown on a arms? I read a lot about using the 73-87 suspension including crossmember. I assume 72-73 is a breaking point but what a arms fit what spindles?

Re: Spindles

All 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton upper arms are the same.
Break down:
63-72
73-87

All 1/2 lowers are the same.
Breakdown:
63-72
73-87

* 3/4 ton lowers have a larger ball joint hole.
* 63-72 have steel cross shaft bushings.
* 73-87 have rubber cross shaft bushings.
* All arms can be swapped between the (63-72) crossmembers and the (73-87) crossmembers.
* 73-87 lower a-arms use a slightly bigger u-bolt to mount them.
(easily fixed with a drill)
