Well, I got close to having my brake job done

The weather report didn't sound too encouraging last night, and my shop is full of other projects, so I have been working out in the rocks. And the snow:

Oh boy. First thing-try to figure out where all this stuff goes:

I broke my own rule and bought new wheel cylinders instead of rebuilding them. This is why I hate this new stuff. The bleeders take some strange size wrench. 3/8's is too big. 10 mm is too big. 5/16's and 9mm is too small. I had these left over so in they went-they are the black ones:

Everything went together fine, though.

I had to change out my brake lines. The one at the right wheel cyl broke when I was taking it apart, and some PO had done a lousy job of using bend-yourself lines when they changed the rearend at some point. As I have a full set that came off my Panel (I went with all new SS on that) I didn't think it would be much of a job. Wrong. Nothing is ever simple. I had to chase those lines all the way back to the connection by the starter before I could get one to come apart without destroying it. And I'm not real sure I didn't destroy that one. I twisted the line pretty good before the fitting started turning. I may yet have to go clear to the master cylinder. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

Nope, If you look at his drivers side shoes, you'll notice the shoe with the larger contact area is to the front. It should go to the rear. Not that it will hurt anything besides a little braking performance. Don't worry pritch, my first set of drums took me hours and I got it wrong too.

The key is to not take them apart but keep them together while they are off so you can have an example for the replacements. Its actually that easy. I always owned cars/truck with drums. Don't care for disc brakes.

Arrrggg!!! Like I said, nothing is ever simple! This ain't my first set of drums, not by a long shot. But I do not specifically remember looking at that. I knew about it, too, that's what makes it worse. I was still hung up on all the mission creep involved. I didn't mention having to change the E-brake cables, also. The old ones were rusted so bad the cable wouldn't move. Too many things on my mind.

Oh, BTW, thanks Crazy Longhorn for pointing that out. That's why I post pictures, to make sure I'm doing it right!
