What is this???

I hope the following picture will help identify what I am going to try and describe. I think it is an emmissions control something or other but am not sure. It is a cannister that sits next to the battery and has 3 lines that run to the top. One line connects to a tee near the carb that continues on to the right side valve cover. One line looks like it connects to a vaccuum line. the 3rd line I don't know where it goes. If this is an emmisions control system, can I remove it and not see any difference in the performance of the truck? I would like to clean up the trucks engine bay and get rid of uneccesary hoses. Thanks for the help and God Bless.

It's the charcoal canister. It's a good idea to have it, but you could probably get by without it. I think it does pull some fumes from the gas tank, so you may get an increase of gas fumes in the cab if you do pull it.

Yes you can remove it. It is a charcoal canister which is part of the emmision control.

One hose comes from the gas tank and one is a vacuum line. The vacuum line can be removed and plugged.

The one from the tank should not be plugged since it vents the tank.

Re: What is this???

So I can pull the lines off of the valve covers and replace them with a breather? And the vacuum lines to the charcoal filter I can just get rid of too? What do I do with the holes where the lines attach to the motor? The vent line for the gas tank can just be cut and vent to the outdoors? Sorry for all the questions, I am just becoming familiar with all of this.
