T221 to NP205 swap
Just picked up another 67 3/4 ton and looking to swap the T221 transfer for the NP205. (as well as a 14bolt) Can anyone tell me exactly whats involved and the parts needed? I wish the search was working because I know this has been covered MANY times.
I assume the crossmember will be the NP205 version from a 69-72? What about shifter location? Driveshaft longer from the increased angle? Speedo hookup? SM420 issues? Thanks in advance! |

The crossmember is the same for the 221 and the 205 so you don't need to change that. The hole for the shifter will be in a different location. I just bought a new hump with the appropriate hole in it. I used my same speedo cable as well. As far as the driveshaft is concerned, I am not sure in your case. I moved everything forward to accomadate the big block so I had to redo the driveline. Make sure that you get the adapter that goes with the 205 because your existing 221 adapter is different.

Thanks Breeh ... which adapter for the SM420 fits the NP205? Is it the same as the SM465?

There is no adapter to marry an NP205 to a SM420. Your best bet would be to find a 465/205 combo with the adapter to swap in.

unless there is something wrong with the 221, I would just leave it in there. if its broken, a 205 is probably cheaper than the parts.
