memphis system
Well boys today I bit the bullet and bought Memphis 3.5's 4x10's and a shallow mount 10" sub. Wish me luck, I'm gone build the box ported for the sub. It's all goin in my 83 single cab k2o. I'll be pushing the sub with a Sony xplod amp and just a pioneer head unit for my words. I'll keep yall updated.

Re: memphis system
Check the manual or with Memphis, but many shallow woofers CAN NOT be ported. They rely on the compression created inside the box to help them in their cycle. Kicker and Fosgate just compressed a conventional woofer, so you can port those, but IIRC, Pioneer, JL, and Memphis all rely on the compression inside a sealed box and wont work worth a crap if ported.

Re: memphis system
The dealer recommended it and there are also box and port specifications for this sub. They said it will really thump right with it ported.

those subs like a sealed box.. as the sealed box slows the movement, a ported box will kill that sub in short order as the sub will try to toss the voice coil out of it and have no air behind it to stop it, good luck tho I got a nice pair of subs for after you blow these up.. ^^^^ not a for sale ad, just there to make a point, |

Re: memphis system
Just depends stich. If they have specs for it from Memphis, then they can do it. They may have changed the construction on the sub and gone to a more conventional setup. I just dont have enough time to go research this further. Good luck with the build sir.

Re: memphis system
I just bought the same subs...we ran the numbers in the computer at the stereo shop and for MY BOX, sealed was DEFINATELY better.
I dont know how big your Xplode amp is, but you might want to look into more power. I'm putting the Memphis Refernce 1200 watt amp to mine and I only have 2. Either way good luck with it and let us know how it goes. |

Re: memphis system
Hey, I don't know enough about sub's and boxes to argue with anyone on how to build it. But I do know that Memphis had a chart and the guy gave me the air space for the box at 1.65' and the port dimensions he gave me was 24" deep 1.5" wide and 10.25" tall. I'm goin to build the box as close to that as possible and hope it works. How does yours sound jack?
