4X4 rear axle question

Does anybody know for sure if you can just take the 5 stud axle out of a 2wd and put it in a 4x4 6 stud 8.5 rear end?..

As long as the 5 stud axle is out of a 8.5 rearend. You probally want to check and see if the brakes and backing plate is the same. I have changed some 2wd rearends to 4wd and discovered the 4wd have bigger wider brakes than the 2wd.

Re: 4X4 rear axle question

I have done this, so it is possible but I wouldn't say its a definite. We swapped all the brakes over too.
