275/60/15 on a 1961 Chev Stepside?

Hi;

Will Goodyear Eagle St 275/60/15 tires work, front and rear, on a 1961 Chevy Stepside? What about a Fleetside?

I plan on running them on AR wagon wheels.

Thanks

I have 245/60/15 on my 65 stepside front and rear. It is bagged but doesnt lay frame, tires just barely clear outside fender lip in the rear with a 15 x 8 inch wheel. Its got plenty of clearance in front. Dosent really answer your question but might help.

A lot will depend on the ride height, rim width and offset. I’m running 255/70-15’s on the back of my step side with 8” rims and the clearance is fine. Then again I’m running nearly stock suspension height. 275/60 is a bunch bigger. Hopefully someone that is running that size will jump in. I do believe the fleet side beds have an extra inch or so clearance compared to the stepside fenders, since they were designed for the 60 cab while the step sides were designed for the narrow (by comparison) 55 cab.

I'm running 275/60/15's on 8" 6 lug rally wheals all the way around with no rubbing. I have about a 4-6 drop but take into consideration that I still have drum brakes up front with stock spindles. All drop spindles will move the front wheels out from approximately .25" (CPP Modular) to .75" (others).

On my 62 stepside I used to have P275/60R15 with 15X7 wheels all the way around with a 4 inch drop all the way around and they fit fine even with the drop spindles. If you go with a six inch drop or lower in the rear you will be getting vary close to the fender even if you roll the lip of the fender.

I don't know about a Stepside but this is a 275-60-15 on the rear of a Fleetside with 10" wheels and 4"springs. Clearance with an untrimmed fender lip is about 3/8". I do have to allow the rear end to hang to get them on and off.

I have P275/60/15s on the back of both my trucks (2 66 LWB C10s stock height). 2 are on 8" rims. 2 are on 10" rims. The 8" seem to have sufficient clearance on front and back. The 10" rims are really tight on the back and I have never put them up front. I will try to post pics later today.

It all depends on the backspacing and width of your AR wagon wheels. That is what will make or break installation on your stepside.

Best thing to do is put the rear axle on jackstands, pull off both wheels and measure clearances from the brake drum wheel mounting surface to the fender lip and to the frame, measure wheel backspacing and width, and then do the math, and buy based on that information.

Good Luck!
