my friend has a factory 1990 SS 454 truck. he is having trouble finding a conventional set of headers, that is 4 primaries into one collector. is this truck a one off, or is it just a 1/2 ton with a 454?
are 1/2 ton [1500] and 3/4 ton [2500] trucks the same?

I don't see it being a one off they had plenty of ss trucks and plenty of 454 trucks.

1500 is 1/2 ton and 2500 is 3/4 ton. They had a LD and HD version of the 2500 though.

tried summit racing for some headers?

Well, in a way it is a one off, since other than in the SS, the 454 was not offered in 1/2 tons. I'm no help on your other questions though.

how you figure? they had 454 ss trucks that were 1/2 ton I know they had to, almost all the ones ppl want and show are the 454 ss trucks and they are 2wd 1/2 ton short beds.

You guys are all saying the same thing. The only 1/2 ton the 454 was available in was the 454SS. You couldn't get one in a 1/2 ton truck as an option, only the 454SS truck.

I don't know if they used special manifolds for the 454SS. I don't remember off the top of my head if you could get the 454 in a one ton back then, but I know you could get it later. I would assume there are differences in the frame between the two that might necessitate a different exhaust manifold, but maybe not?

eh my bad. I thought he meant there was no 454 period. I know they had 454 ss but when he started mentioning it being a one off it threw me, he said in the first post it's a 454 ss truck, so it's not a one off they had other 454 ss trucks.

The manifolds may be a "one-off", in the sense that they might have been specific to that truck and no others. I think that's what he was meaning.

why would it matter he wants headers, and in that case look em up for a 90 ss 454 truck. simple.

Most one tons, that were not diesel, had the 454 there is a few around here.

If all else fails look on Hooker Headers site and search for the year and model of the truck. I have seem a few of them on the 454SS 1/2 tons around here.

Check out www.454ss.com and yes you can get headers for them. Also, you could order the Sport truck back then 89-93 I think with the 454 and a 5 speed. Good luck with your search.
