Got a buddy that just picked up a rusty 50's Chevrolet 3200. It has a v-8 engine and 4 speed overdrive transmission??? Anything special about that transmission and what engine would it be?

Re: Chevrolet 3200

could be anything.. if its an AD, thats not the original engine or transmission... if its a TF, it may be the engine, but thats obviously not the transmission as GM didnt invent a OD auto yet. lol.

some pics would help alot on figuring out what he has... casting numbers on the engine, and a pic of the transmission pan would help to

X2

3600 is the 3/4 ton with 123 1/4 inch wheel base.
3800 is a 1 ton

3100 is 114 inch wheel base that is a short bed 1/2 ton.
3200 is 123 1/4 inch wheel base 1/2 ton

3100 the begining vin numbers or serial number which ever you wish to call it on these trucks is 3A__ the under line is the year 57, 58 , 59
I think the 56 used the same protocol, and I think 55 is different.
If it is a 3B__ then you have a 3200.

Re: Chevrolet 3200

The BW o-drive trans. was available in 55 up 1/2 tons. I don't think he mentioned anything about automatic. With photos we will know what it is.
