Question About Brakes
When I apply the brakes on my 85 chevy truck the driver's side rear tire locks up. If push on the brakes easy the tire will not lock up. What do you think is causing this? Thanks in advance.

Re: Question About Brakes
Check that wheel for signs of fluid leaks. Its possible you have a leaky wheel cylinder.

Re: Question About Brakes
Had a friends truck doing the same thing a few years ago (except the passengers side was locking up.) Turned out the drivers side parking brake cable was frozen up and not letting the drivers side brake work properly. Just something to check on.

Re: Question About Brakes
I just recent;y fixed the same problem I was having with my truck. There rear drums would lock up once the pedal was pushed to a certain point, or if I pressed the brakes very quickly. Turns out both my wheel cylinders were leaking and the brake hardware was rusted pretty bad. I turned my drums, new brake shoes, new wheel cylinders and an all-in-one kit to replace rusted springs, etc... Brakes work perfectly now. Hope this helps.

Re: Question About Brakes
Thanks. Hopefully I get to tear into it tomorrow and see what the problem is. Thanks for your comments. I will post after I check it out and find the problem. It is just the drivers side back tire doing it. But of course will check them both.

Re: Question About Brakes
You might try bleeding the system first, those little bubbles do strange things, same thing happened to my 86, bled the system and everything was fine.

Re: Question About Brakes
N2Trux you hit the nail on the head. Pulled the hub off the truck and found that the wheel cylinder was leaking and had covered everything. Brake shoes were coming apart and real sticky. Took the passenger side apart and found the other side was also leaking but not as bad. Changed it all out. Went to put new wheels and tires on the truck and found I needed front brakes also. So the old truck got new brakes all the way around. Brakes working good now. Thanks for all your info and comment. Just another reason to be a member of this GREAT site.
