engine color question
when did chevy switch from chevy red to chevy blue for their engine blocks?

my 82 is blue....or should i say was, as of at this point the only thing left of the original engine is the intake.

Good question. The engine in my 77 is blue, but I gotta wonder as the block is a 1969. But blue is good it matches the truck.

My 77 is Chevy orange, but I know it isn't "correct". That's ok, because it still looks cool. What is color is Chevy red? Do you mean orange?

i do mean orange. for some reason they call it red or i thought they did anyway.
my 77 is blue too, but I had noticed a lot of people with engines both newer and older had the orange.

I think in mid 80's they changed from blue to black but on orange I want to say ealry 70's.

the engines were orange until like 1977 b/c my dad used to have a 77 longbed and his engine was blue and my uncle who had a 76 the engine in his was orange.i used to have a 78 that came with a blue engine but when i rebuilt it i painted it orange b/c i cant gm blue.chevy orange looks much cooler in my opinion.my 74 now has a black engine b/c its a goodwrench 350

Not that I'm sure anybody really cares about this, but 1982 6.2L diesels were painted red (not orange), and 83- to present models are painted black.
That's one real easy way to tell if you have an early model or not. If you got a red 6.2L, it's an '82. Just thought I'd throw that in!
