SM 465 stick shift removal
Hello all,
Since I cant do the search option I will make a posting. I have done the stick shift removal before but it has been too many years. As I remember you press down the center cap and turn to unlock. Then you place the stick shift halfway between neutral and reverse and pull up? Is this correct? Thank you. andy

its only been months since i did mine and i have allready forgot, but i thought first you had to remove a nut or an allen screw on the side of the housing first? i think

If you're just pulling the shift stick.. you only have to press down and turn the cap about 45 degrees clockwise -- I think -- using tool J-@#$% [I made one by cutting a 5/8" slot in a short piece of 2x4 wood] ..then the stick should lift right up. There is a half-ball and spring underneath that come out too.
If you're pulling the turret plate (top) off the tranny ... then you need to be almost in Reverse to get it off. The top plate has to come off only if you are pulling the engine and trans as a one-piece unit. |

Thanks for the replys. I know the last time I did not use any special tools. I will give it a try unless anyone else has any other recomendations.
