Routine maintenance leads to mods. Murphy strikes
Well I bought my 69 a couple months ago and have been driving it daily. It was getting tough to stop the old truck so new brake shoes all around were in order. So off to Auotzone and get all my parts to totally rebuild the brakes. New shoes, wheel cylinders, brake hoses and spring kits for the brakes. Also got new shocks and oil to change out the rear end oil.
Turned into the brake change from hell. If it could go wrong it did. Get it on my buddies lift and all the wheels and drums off. Start on the left front and when it came time for the wheel cyclinder removal i did not have the right socket or wrench. Had just to small then just to big. Had to run my buddies for the right size, of course I sat at a trin crossing for 20 min. Get back and find out Autozone gave me the wrong size brake shoes, so back to town for shoes. So it kept on, stuck lines, rusted bolts heads rounding off. Turns out the truck had no rear brakes as the rear brake hose was clogged or collapsed on it self. So I finally got the brakes done, adjusted and bleed. New shocks on and rear end oil changed. Good thing as it was very low on lube and it was watery. While I had it torn apart I cut out a coil and trew in some jeep spings in the back. I will get proper springs asap, just wanted to get it down a bit. Will need an alignment also but I am happy with it. My 3 1/2 yearld daughter calls it her Bubba truck so the name is sticking. I think she heard her momma call it that once. Sorry for the long rant, just had to vent a bit. Thanks for all the good tech articles as i refer to the forum often! Here is the Bubba truck before.  After

Much better! Those first brake jobs can really be a pita. I remember when I did the first brake job after getting my truck and the shoes had become one with the drums. Several pry bars and LOTS of swear words. Glad you got it squared away.

lesson 1....
plan out your work lesson two spray everything with PB blaster the week before!! lesson three never take it all apart well hope now that Bubba brakes well to keep your little one safe!!!

now get a cheap can of paint, and coat all the fitting ends and bolt heads,, and bleader..
so next time will be easy |

^^^ Oh wait you mean you didn't pull the bleeder and put never seize on it before you put it in.....been there done that.....daddy always tought me NEVER SIEZE everything you work on you may be the next guy to work on it......if not they will thank you!!

69 grill and long fleet makes for a very nice truck! Value will always go up every bolt you wrench on and rebuild. Sweet truck

Brings back good memories from the first time I did Old Yeller's drums (my first brake job ever) back in 1993. The right rear was all the way down to the steel. Not a lick of brake pad left on it. Every time I'd try to stop in the rain it would lock up and turn the truck sideways. I nearly wrecked twice because of it.
