2wd/4wd differ ?
Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between the clutch cross shaft (Z-bar) for a V-8 for a 2 wheel drive verses a 4 wheel drive? I know they are not the same between 6 cyl. and V-8 engine because of physical size difference in block/frame configuration. My connection to GM parts counter says his " book " is not specific except for a "DD" code as in "double duty" cab forward? Greek to me. Need to locate a replacement for my 4x4 as it is getting a bit "weak" and has been welded several times. The metal tube is wearing after 30+ years. Doubt that a ricer would ever hold up that long!

Either two wheel or 4 wheel drive "z" bar will work for you. When I compared the two wheel drive with the four wheel drive, the only difference that I could tell was that the four wheel drive "tube" was approximately 1/8" longer so that it went onto the ball further by that amount. As far as they normally go onto the ball, that is pretty insignificant. The difference that I noticed could be attributed to other factors, (different manufacturer, maybe).
The big differences in the clutch linkage between the two are the clutch rod is shorter on the four wheel drive and the location of the pivot ball is different,(to make up the differences in engine locations). Jim |

Jim, thanks for the info on the clutch shaft differences. The clutch rod you refer to, are you meaning the adjustment rod at the lower end that goes to the clutch fork or the rod coming from the pedal side thru the firewall to the z-bar? I really need both pieces as my upper firewall rod is worn also.

The adjustment rod is shorter. The bracket on the frames is in the same location so the long pedal rod is the same.

Since I'm going with the hydraulic clutch in the swap I should have both parts. They are yours if you want them. Let me know.
