park, dome, brake lights problem

I am putting my 64 GMC back together and still tackling one problem after another.

Now the park, dome and brake light will not turn on. Please help. The headlight switch is new and the headlights and instrumental dashbroad light do work.

Any Ideas?

Re: park, dome, brake lights problem

Did they work before? It could be a couple of things, as simple as bad bulbs or bad grounds. On my dome light one of the wires was cut , and on my brake lights the plug that conects to the cab was bad,and on my parking lights the fire wall plug was loose. It took a while with a test light to find it out.

Use a test light at the head light switch and see if the dimmer reostat (sp) is working ( even if it is new) check the dome light to see if there is any power to it.

Are the rear running lights working? Do the front turn signals work?
The parking lights do not work if the head lights are on, they come on only when the headlight switch is pulled 1/2 way out. Hope this helps a bit

before I take my apart, they did worked. The dimmer on the instrument dash broad do work.
But signal light, park or dome or brake. I'll check for grounding issue.

Check the plug conections sound like they may be loose.

gabe2000:
My 1966 GMC does that when the fuse loses its connection in the fuse box. Those three are on the same circuit. Check with a volt meter with the positive probe on each side of that fuse in the box as you turn on the dome light. I think you will see the 12V dropping off on one side of the fuse. If so, take the fuse out and use some sandpaper on the fuse terminals to get a better connection, then put the fuse back in.

yeah its all wet here now, been needin that.

I just rewired a 63 and had nothing but ground issues.

If you think you have enough good grounds, you dont, add more.
