Quick question on lube for porterbuilt suspension

Hey Guy's,

Just want to see what everyone uses for lubing the delrin and polyurethane bushing. I assume due to delrin being self lubricating that a standard grease is fine but some state they use a graphite grease for polyurethane bushings.

Please advise....

Re: Quick question on lube for porterbuilt suspension

I wouldn't use a "petroleum based" grease. I have heard that Delrin can absorb petroleum based lubricants and it will cause it to swell up. I did a bit of research and couldn't find an official response on the Dupont website.

Maybe someone with more knowledge on the product can confirm my concerns.

Re: Quick question on lube for porterbuilt suspension

Interesting,

I know I have used delrin on small automation machines that were always dry but I am not familiar with using them for automotive.

Re: Quick question on lube for porterbuilt suspension

I think the Delrin is to be installed dry. Use a synthetic on the poly stuff. Either the Super lube you can get from UMI suspension or Mobil 1 which you should be able to get at your local auto parts store. I've also found the super lube at Harbor freight, so you might check there if you have one local. Energy Suspension makes a grease also, but is kind of pricy.

Re: Quick question on lube for porterbuilt suspension

Energy Suspension makes a silicone grease especially for poly. It is STICKY stuff, but works great and does not wash off easily...

Re: Quick question on lube for porterbuilt suspension

This is from Porterbuilt:
It is important that a liberal amount anti-seeze lubricant be used on the areas where the bushing insert and lower control arm shaft come together. Also be generous on the long threaded through shaft that ties the lower control assembly together.

Re: Quick question on lube for porterbuilt suspension

Thanks for the info guy's, I have a asked Nate the question also.

As it stands now: Delrin-inside diameter = anti seize (graphite??)
Delrin - outside diameter = anti seize graphite??)

Poly - inside & outside diameter = silicone/synthetic grease

I would like conformation on this so I can be ready to assemble.

Re: Quick question on lube for porterbuilt suspension

Negative on the anti-seeze for the lubricating the Delrin. The anti-seeze will be for the metal to metal components on the lower shaft assembly.

The delrin goes together dry.

As for the poly use the stuff (or similar to) what energy suspension has.

Re: Quick question on lube for porterbuilt suspension

Thanks for the clarification Nate. So automotive use with delrin is no different than when we use it on small automated machines (dry because of it's self lubricating properties)

As for polyurethane, I have never run them before and I did not want any squeaking.

hopefully I can find poly lube locally.

Thanks everyone......
