Project BallGround K10
1984 K10 Silverado
So I've been planning this for a while (got the truck in December 2010) and my first course of action was to save money for some 35's and a 4-5'' lift then let it be. Possibly slap some paint on it on down the line. The truck didn't have working windows (power) semi working CD player, the interior basically looked like a senseless 22 year old tweeker took apart the interior just for the heck of it. Long story short, I found a new grille, 2 new doors with door panels, and some other odds and ends dirt cheap off craigslist... SO THE JOURNEY HAS BEGAN! Interior is now bare, awaiting sanding, dye for interior panels, repair of interior light, rhino lining floor, carpet behind the seat (keeps my guns from scratching) ANYWAY I will keep you all posted, ALL of these pics are BEFORE I started restoration. NEW Pics coming in 2 days BEFORE NEW INTERIOR |

Re: Project BallGround K10
I forgot to ask if you know or if anybody knows what kind of DYE to use on interior parts when cleaning/restoring. Thats what I was told to use but I have no idea what kind of where to buy it. Thank you

Re: Project BallGround K10
I used SEM paint. You can get it from any automotive paint store, or buy it online anywhere. DuPont also makes interior trim paint. They both make a cleaner and primer for their paint, but you should just wash it off first with soap and water and rinse well. My door panels were so grubby I had to really scrub them, which removed the vinyl texture on the upper surfaces. I find I still get the paint rubbing off on the driver's door armrest where the seat belt buckle snaps back into the holder when I unbuckle my seat belt. If you do new window run channels and felts make sure you by GM OEM parts - the aftermarket parts don't fit well. Here are some pics of my SEM job.

Re: Project BallGround K10
Thank you for the info, if you don't mind feel free to move it to the builds page. I have full intention on keeping up with pictures and progress as I go.
I realize its not an off the frame restoration, but its my first project. My main goal was to get the truck cleaned up have everything functioning and "sound" Besides writting notes on paper I think this is a great way to stay focused and on track to goals, plus you get some great ideas and tips from people who have been working on restores ALOT longer than I have. So thanks again, Im off to the auto parts store for interior paint, bedliner (for interior) Headliner Spray glue, sandpaper, adhesive for door seals. The rest of the day will consist of: Finish door wiring, run speaker wire from kick panel 5 1/4. Start the sanding process of the cab.

Re: Project BallGround K10
So I finally got some pictures together.
The grille was changed out late last week. Interior doors are new (from an 85 c10) I still need the top silverado strip with grab handle. Actually need both driver and passenger door. Other than that these doors work well, there sound (FINALLY!) no rattle when Im on the road, dont even have the door seals in yet and its already 100 times better. The other doors are on craigslist for 100 bucks hopefully they will sell. The Floor was done as a test, I got some bedliner spray from auto zone. 2 cans and it really was what I was expecting (like a layer of flat black) So eventually gonna carpet but this will work for now. I ordered a dash cover for $125, its shadow blue. It should be in tomorrow, then I can paint my interior pieces to match. I went ahead and painted them shadow blue today but its a little too light. Not dark enough, and I smacked my self for not waiting on the dash. SOOO I can just redue em. Thats about all folks, just a little up date, any pointers tips etc dont hesitate to say it! These pics may or may not come out right, Im new to photobucket. http://s112.photobucket.com/albums/n...paynehexx/K10/

Re: Project BallGround K10
I've used the SEM paint with success, but you better use the primer beforehand or the paint will not stick.

Re: Project BallGround K10
Thanks to all who replied. I received my dash top yesterday and its ready for paint. I still have to go to the store and get SEM paint WITH PRIMER!! (thanks) So that will take care of the interior parts that needed to be finished. I'm still in the process of locating rubber interior thats pre molded to fit just the front of the cab, then for the back I'm going to put some carpet down so the guns don't get all scratched up.
As for the interior, I still have to hook up my interior light, wire up door speakers and mount/install rear speakers, correct wiring in CD player, install headliner, and thats just about it. Nothing to extreme just gonna take some hours. Will get pics loaded up in a few days.
