It may last if your real easy on it. But thats a big maybe. I have heard of people grenading them behind 305's.

Re: trans. ?
If you use your truck as a truck sometimes, a car 4 speed won't be the best choice. The T5 isn't rated at the amount of torque a typical 350 will put out.

Re: trans. ?
I guess it would come down to how heavy you load it when you're hauling and which T5 you choose. A "world class" T5 with a pre-88 S-10 tailshaft housing would be the strongest option (w/o opening up the insides) while keeping a decent shift lever locations.
I'm giving a weaker, "non world-class" transmission a try in my truck (mild 350) to see if lasts. Not on the road yet, so I have no personal data in a C-10. I do know that the world-class transmissions they put in the old mustangs were pretty tough. I know the 302 had less HP & torque of a SBC AND I know that the fox-bodied Mustangs were 3000 lb with a driver, HOWEVER: I have an uncle that used to race a 89 5.0L LX Mustang. He had just about every bolt-on go-fast goodie (3.73:1 rear end, off-road exhaust, different rocker arms, computer chip, underdrive pulleys, cold air intake, etc) and consistently ran low, low 13 second quarters. His goal was to break into the twelves without major engine mods. He got these 1/4 mile times with the aid of 10" drag slicks and dropping the clutch at redline when he launched. Now, I know that first gear launching is a different usage than towing a load in 4th or 5th gear, but I am confident I won't break my trans by just "spirited" driving. |

Re: trans. ?
You currently have a 4L60, or are you looking for a few extra gears for fuel mileage?
